Agô
Afro-Brasilian Stories
Ink on white paper
29,7 x 42 cm
Agô in Yoruba language means “asking for permission” “May I?”
This expressive, soulful face, with a striking glance, invites the viewer to contemplate him.
Agô is the representation of a divine messenger, Eshu (Exu in yoruba language), that is the most human among the Orishas (the Afro-Brazilian deities) and is considered the Master of communication.
He is the spirit of the market, he is there where people bargain, exchange, sell, and create.
Eshu is responsible for brilliant insights and strokes of luck. He is the one who speaks all languages of the world, “The one who throws the stone today and hits the target tomorrow!”
For me, drawing Agô means paying homage to the communication between human beings, the infinite possibilities of creative, emotional and commercial exchange.
